Their declaration will be now recorded and they will be questioned. 4345 43 20 وقالوا لو شاء الرحمن ما عبدناهم ما لهم بذلك من علم إن هم إلا يخرصون And they say, “If the Most Gracious had willed, we would not have worshipped them!” They do not know its truth at all; they only make guesses. 4346 43 21 أم آتيناهم كتابا من قبله فهم به مستمسكون Or have We given them some Book before this, to which they hold fast? 4347 43 22 بل قالوا إنا وجدنا آباءنا على أمة وإنا على آثارهم مهتدون Rather they said, “We found our forefathers upon a religion, and we are following their footsteps.” 4348 43 23 وكذلك ما أرسلنا من قبلك في قرية من نذير إلا قال مترفوها إنا وجدنا آباءنا على أمة وإنا على آثارهم مقتدون And similarly, whenever We sent a Herald of Warning before you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) into any town, its wealthy people said, “We found our forefathers upon a religion, and we are behind their footsteps.” 4349 43 24 قال أولو جئتكم بأهدى مما وجدتم عليه آباءكم قالوا إنا بما أرسلتم به كافرون The prophet said, “What!
