And with Allah rests the outcome of all matters. 2637 22 42 وإن يكذبوك فقد كذبت قبلهم قوم نوح وعاد وثمود If they impugn you, the people of Noah had impugned before them and ‘Ad and Thamud, 2638 22 43 وقوم إبراهيم وقوم لوط [as well as] the people of Abraham and the people of Lot, 2639 22 44 وأصحاب مدين وكذب موسى فأمليت للكافرين ثم أخذتهم فكيف كان نكير and the inhabitants of Midian, and Moses was also impugned. But I gave the faithless a respite, then I seized them and how was My rebuttal! 2640 22 45 فكأين من قرية أهلكناها وهي ظالمة فهي خاوية على عروشها وبئر معطلة وقصر مشيد How many towns We have destroyed when they had been wrongdoers! So they lie fallen on their trellises, their wells neglected and their ruined palaces! 2641 22 46 أفلم يسيروا في الأرض فتكون لهم قلوب يعقلون بها أو آذان يسمعون بها فإنها لا تعمى الأبصار ولكن تعمى القلوب التي في الصدور Have they not travelled through the land so that they may have hearts by which they may exercise their reason, or ears by which they may hear? Indeed, it is not the eyes that turn blind, but it is the hearts in the breasts that turn blind! 2642 22 47 ويستعجلونك بالعذاب ولن يخلف الله وعده وإن يوما عند ربك كألف سنة مما تعدون They ask you to hasten the punishment, though Allah will never break His promise.
